Why are they so expensive?

Our macarons are made with premium ingredients, by highly skilled, artisan bakers. The two main ingredients are almond flour and egg whites. When compared to other flours, almond flour is several times more expensive. And due to the amount of egg whites used in one macaron, eggs are a major expense.

In addition, the filling that is inside the biscuits is made from costly premium and sustainably sourced ingredients (Including: Heilala Vanilla, Horizon Chocolate, natural colours and flavours.).

On top of the cost of ingredients, macarons can only be made well by highly skilled artisan bakers. And of course, the extremely high product wastage must also be taken into account. Although we do everything we can to reduce product wastage, there is always going to be a few ugly ones.

Sooooo.... for the reasons above, macarons, for their size, are usually priced higher than other sweet treats! 

Healthy?

Macarons are surprisingly healthy. The outer-shell is mostly made from Almond Meal (ground up almonds), with a small amount of Natural Colouring and Sugar. The yummy centre of the macaron...is...um... yummy!

How do I care for them?

The fridge IS your friend.  When you get your macarons home in their box, either eat them at once, or pop them in the fridge in an air-tight container with a sheet of baking paper underneath. You've got a week to much your way through them.
